Situation now much easier owing to apparently complete withdrawal

of the Japanese troops from the neighbourhood of the frontier.

Refugees are returning gradually but I hope that this process

will accelerate when reports of conditions in the villages are

substantiated,

I will address you further regarding the interned Chinese

soldiers.
